The Bears announced yesterday that mandatory veteran minicamp will be held from March 17-19.
That means it begins five weeks from today.
In the past, it has been held in June, near the end of the offseason program.
That will allow the club to do a few things.
It gives Smith and the coaching staff an opportunity to take a look at any free agents signed before then.
Free-Agency begins on Feb. 27.
It will allow defensive line coach Rod Marinelli and secondary coach Jon Hoke to get comfortable with the Bears defense before the voluntary offseason program begins in April.
What do I think?
This shows the Bears are starting of 2009 on the right foot.
