Chicago Bears Cut Rideau and Keep Hanie.

The Chicago Bears had to trim there roster down to 53 today and they decided to keep three quarterbacks, four running backs, and six wide receivers.

They cut one guy, who everyone thought showed great promise and it could be a huge mistake.

Brandon Rideau, has been on the Bears practice squad for a couple of years now and in four games this preseason he caught three touchdown passes.

Rideau had 127 yards in those games, he totally outplayed veteran WR Marty Booker, who in my mind was the guy to go.

The Bears are looking to establish their eight man practice squad and they better put Rideau on that list.

Rideau is a big kid at 6'3" and I hope they add him to their roster this season, if they get him through waivers.

The Bears had talks about keeping only two QB's this season, but realized rookie QB Caleb Hanie from Colorado State showed too much this preseason.

Hanie is the QB of the future for the Bears, not only does he have a decent arm, but he is athletic and he can scramble for the first down, if you need it.

Hanie combined for 29/49 on passing attempts, 321 yards through the air, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Hanie had this to say about making the 53 man roster "After a couple of [exhibition] games, I figured I had at least a shot at making it."

"It just really depended on the numbers for me. I'm just thankful to be in this position now."

"[Coach] Lovie Smith gave me a call and said, 'Usually these calls are bad, but I just wanted to let you know you made it."

Veteran Fred Miller has been offered a one-year deal, but has yet to act on it.

Also, rookie LT Chris Williams is likely out for the season and Terrance Metcalf doesn't know how long he will be out.

The Bears have only seven offensive lineman on their roster, with John St. Clair replacing Chris Williams at LT and Josh Beekman replacing Terrance Metcalf at LG.

Aslo released to get the roster down to 53 were offensive linemen Anthony Oakley and Tyler Reed, tight end Fontel Mines, long-snapper Thomas Gafford and nine rookies in punter Zacrey Atterberry, defensive end Ervin Baldwin, tackle Cody Balogh, cornerback Trey Brown, defensive ends Joe Clermond and Nick Osborn, linebacker Joey LaRocque, guard Ryan Poles and tight end Marcus Stone.

So here is the breakdown of the Chicago Bears 2008-2009 roster in alphabetical order:

The Bears want to get some other veteran offensive lineman in the mix, atleast as backups, just to help out the current line, which is shaky right now.

Also, they might regret the release of Rideau, but who knows, maybe Booker will wake up and have a big game.

Ex-Bear and Patriot Rosevelt Colvin Cut By The Houston Texans

Yesterday it was announced that former Chicago Bear and most recently New England Patriot Rosevelt Colvin was released by the Houston Texans.

Colvin signed in June, this off-season with the Texans, after being released by the Patriots.

The Texans wanted to use Colvin as a situational pass rusher, but it didn't work out.

This is what head coach Gary Kubiak had to say about the release “The bottom line was to have a player on your team to just play nickel, he would have to be special, we had to sit there and weigh him against players who could play special teams and do some other things for our team.”

Colvin had recovered from a foot injury, that kept him out of the last five games and the playoffs last season with the Patriots.

Colvin was a 4th round pick with the Chicago Bears back in 1999.

Colvin recorded 26 sacks, 185 tackles, ten forced fumbles, two interceptions and appeared in 56 games in his four years with the Bears (1999-2002).

Colvin signed with the Patriots in the 2002 off-season. In his five seasons there (2003-2007) he recorded 26.5 sacks, 180 tackles, seven forced fumbles, one interception.

Colvin is only 31 years old and could be a solid backup, sord of like a Takeo Spikes, who knows what he has left in him, but he better show something or he will have to retire before he wants to.

Bears Make Risky Moves And Cut Ties With High '07 Draft Picks

The Chicago Bears announced today that they released 2nd round pick Dan Bazuin and 3rd round pick Mike Okwo.

Both of these players were plagued by injuries in the two seasons, that they were with the Bears.

Dan Bazuin had this to say about his release "They basically told me that the circumstances at my position were a lot different than the circumstances were when I was drafted in the second round."

"Part of that had to do with my injury. And the other part of it had to do with Alex Brown getting a new contract. It changed the way they looked at me."

"I never felt as a Chicago Bear that I had the explosion I had before my surgeries."

"Fully healthy, I think I can be a starter in this league for somebody."

Approached after Thursday's preseason finale, Mike Okwo seemed resigned to the fact his time with the Bears was coming to a close.

Other confirmed cuts, included WR Mike Hass, FB Lousaka Polite,RB P.J. Pope and S Leonard Peters.

Zackary Bowman doesn't know if he will make the team.

Bowman had this to say about the possibility of his release "You don't know. It's a business, you just have to wait and see what's going to happen."

These picks are now looked at as mistakes by Jerry Angelo and who knows they might turn out to be good, but the Bears have Nick Roach replacing Mike Okwo and Dan Bazuin wasn't needed at the DE position.

The Bears have to bring there roster to 53 and that means they have to make some tough moves.

The Bears will be fine without these players who were always injured.

Taking a Look at Their Final Preseason Game

At the end of the Bears final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, the Bears came out the winners.

The won 16-10 and held the Browns to zero points in the second half.

But, Head Coach Lovie Smith had this to say about his defense "I'm disappointed."

"The plan was to get a couple of three-and-outs and then take the players out, but it didn't turn out that way. We didn't play well. Believe me, if we could put our finger on it we would have done something about it before now. We've got a little bit more time to get it right.

"We haven't played well. That is all you can say about it. We have not made all the effort we need to play well. All the things that go into playing well, we haven't done. Once we get all our guys going, I feel we will have a very strong defense."

Starting CB Charles Tillman was aksed about the D's bad play this preseason and he had this say "If I had an answer I'd tell you right now, we have to get this cleaned up."

Keep in mind the Bears did rest two key starters on the defense, S Mike Brown and DT Tommie Harris.

They also kept G Terrance Metcalf, who has been injured for a while on the sideline and TE Desmond Clark out.

Backup G Chester Adams was injured on the last play of the first half and reportedly went out with a knee injury.

That is why they need to get Fred Miller in uniform as a backup, just to get a veteran presence in there.

Offensively:

On the bright side for the Bears, 3rd string QB Caleb Hanie finished the game 12/17, for 115 yards and led the Bears down the field for two field goals.

Grossman led the Bears to there only TD drive, in a 19 yard pass to Brandon Rideau.

Orton was 4/7 and threw a bad ball because John St. Clair missed his block.

P.J. Pope, who was on the practice squad last season, carried the ball eight times for 34 yards in the second half.

The last WR spot on the Bears roster could come down to Marty Booker, Mark Bradley or Brandon Rideau.

This will be a tough call because the Bears depth at WR looks like this, Brandon Lloyd, Rashied Davis, Devin Hester, Mark Bradley, Marty Booker, Brandon Rideau.

Don't forget 3rd round pick Earl Bennett from Vanderbilt.

I think Rideau and Bradley should both make the team, because last night they combined for eight catches, 105 yards and one TD.

I don't know what you do with Marty Booker, he hasn't showed much this preseason.

This will be a tough call for the Bears, but for sure you have to keep Mark Bradley, because he is the type of play maker Bernard Berrian was.

Did you know?

Because the Bears beat the Browns last night, they prevented themselves form going 0-4 in the preseason for the first time since 1998.

Good Stuff:

On a fourth and goal for the Browns in the 4th quarter the Bears Craig Steltz tipped the ball and stopped the Browns from scoring.

Before, that play S Leonard Peters, who was on the practice squad last season, forced a fumble, which was later overturned.

Also, undrafted free agent CB Trey Brown who took Cedric Benson's #32 picked off Ken Dorsey in the fourth quarter.

Lastly, the Bears K Robbie Gould looked "good as gold" last night, he kicked he made all three field goal attempts he had and his longest was a 48 yarder.

Heading into the regular season:

Cutting there roster to 53 men, is going to be tough for the Bears.

They must make there moves by Saturday.

The D is dissapointed in themselves, and they should be, they gave up an average of 25 points, 326 total yards, 161 of that on the ground per game.

If they want to be the D they were in 2006, they better step it up a couple of notches

Fred Miller Waiting To Make Decision With Bears

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports free-agent OT Fred Miller worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday and the Buccaneers have offered him a contract worth more than the one-year deal for the league minimum $830,000 offered by the Chicago Bears.

Fred Miller is expected to make a decision this week.

The Bears probably need this guy, just for depth at the offensive line.

They just lost rookie Chester Adams to an injury and who knows how long Chester will be out.

Fred wasn't that great last year, but who knows he could return back to his prime or he might be way to old.

In other news, Rookie wide receiver Marcus Monk, who was waived by the Bears on Sunday, was claimed by the New York Giants yesterday.

I think it wouldn't be a bad move for the Bears to pick up Fred Miller, if anything it would help them more than hurt them.

Update at Halftime From The Last Preseason Game

This is an update from the Chicago Bears last preseason game at halftime.

Kyle Orton played the first quarter and a little of the second.

He threw one interception and was 4/7 for 51 yards. The interception wasn't his fault, because LT John St. Clair made a bad play and left Orton exposed.

Rex Grossman came in and played most of the 2nd quarter until the two minute warning.

He went 5/7 with one touchdown throw to Brandon Rideau and 59 yards.

Then Caleb Hanie got his shot to run the offense and looked good as well.

Hanie was 6/6, with 55 yards.

He also had a 23 yard touchdown pass to Mark Bradley taken away from him because of a holding call on 7th round pick Kirk Barton.

The game is 10-10 at the half, but Grossman and Hanie looked good helping the Bears tie it up.

Positives:

The "other" Adrian Peterson (He had six carries for 36 yards)

Rex Grossman (He was 5/7 and lead the Bears to there only TD drive).

Caleb Hanie (He was a perfect 6/6 and looked good)

Brandon Rideau (He had two catches for 25 yards and a TD).

Mark Bradley (For a guy trying to find his groove after two knee surgeries, I think he did). He had five catches for 42 yards.

Brandon McGowan (He looks the real thing, whether he moves to nickel back or stays at safety, he makes the right moves).

Negatives:

Craig Steltz (He got beat a couple times and I haven't seen look real good this preseason, he might still be injured or it might be Adam Archuleta's jersey).

Corey Graham (He was supposedly getting a whole lot better, but I haven't seen that this preseason and defiantly not tonight against the Browns).

Kevin Payne (For a guy, who was supposedly a big hitter, he looked real slow to the ball).

Brian Urlacher (He might still be hurt, because he is not the same old Urlacher anymore).

Hopefully the negatives must improve soon, because the Bears need everyone to contribute this season.

Kyle Orton called "Super-hot" by Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was in Chicago for “girlfriend” Samantha Ronson’s monthly party at the Crimson Lounge.

There she saw Chicago Bears starting quarterback dancing away the night.

“Also spied dancing with an attractive blonde at Crimson Lounge: Chicago Bears quarterback Kyle Orton called ‘’super-hot” by Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson both admired his dance-floor moves.”

I guess the beard can get the girls.

I thought he was married, I guess not.

I can't believe someone would be call Orton "super-hot."

She must be kidding.

If she is that's pretty funny.

Jay Mariotti leaves the Chicago Sun-Times

It was reported yesterday that Jay Mariotti of the Chicago Sun-Times and "Around the Horn" of ESPN has left the Chicago Sun-Times to pursue other opportunities.

He joined the Sun-Times in 1991.

I never liked this guy, it seemed like he would bash his own teams before complementing them.

I think he was the guy, who started the Rex Grossman bashing.

I'm glad to see him gone, now a quality can take his sport for Chicago.

This is an article about being a Chicago sports and with this Jay Mariotti gone we can feel a little relieved.

Chris Simms to The Ravens?

This hasn't happened yet, but I can see happening very soon.

The Buccaneers QB Chris Simms will likely be trades and the Ravens are the team that needs a QB.

Now, that they lost Kyle Boller for almost the whole season or even the whole season, he could compete with rookie Joe Flacco from Deleware and Troy Smith.

Simms thought he might have been released yesterday, but the Bucs cut Linebacker Antoine Cash, CB Sammy Davis, safety Donte Nicholson and wide receiver Paris Warren.

They still have 75 players on their roster and they have to cut that number down to 53 by saturday.

Simms said he guarntees he will be cut or traded by then.

He doesn't want to be in Tampa because he knows the depth in front of him and that is why Baltimore suits him better than any other team in the league.

Simms had Brian Griese, Jeff Garcia, and Luke McCown in front of him and rookie Josh Johnson.

The Bears, Texans, Cowboys, Titans are all teams considering picking Simms up, but I don't see those teams actually making that move.

Simms was the starter for the Bucs in 2006, until he went down for the that season and the 2007 season with a ruptured spleen.

David Dorsey of the Ft. Myers News Press asked Simms a few questions.

Firstly he asked him if he received enough playing this preseason and Simms said"It just didn't work out."

Simms went 10 of 14 for 84 yards this preseason for the Bucs.

Simms told Dorsey that he knew the other 21 teams' depth charts, just so he knows where he would fit in with those teams.

"It's somewhat my job to know that kind of stuff," Simms said about knowing the other 31 teams' depth charts. "We're all competitors. We like to know what's going on out there."

Dorsey finally asked him, where he sees himself going.

Simms said "You know me", "I'd love to answer your questions, but I have no answers. I really don't."

Simms doesn't know it yet, but he could be in Purple and Black before he knows it.

Simms would be a nice fit for a team that hasn't had a real quarterback, since I guess Trent Dilfer, since Dilfer took them to the Super Bowl.

Bears Release Veteran Cornerback Ricky Manning Jr.

We all saw this coming.

Today veteran CB Ricky Manning Jr. was released by the Chicago Bears.

"Getting released was more emotional for my wife than me," Manning Jr said.

"She was a little upset that they said I was a part of the program, then they released me this late in the process when it could have been done a while ago. That would have made things easier for my family."

Manning Jr. signed with the Bears as a restricted free agent in 2006 off-season.

In two seasons with the Bears, Ricky Manning Jr. appeared in 31 games with 11 starts.

Manning Jr. had 106 tackles, three sacks and five interceptions in his time with the Bears.

Manning Jr. had no interceptions last season, while playing nickel-back with the Bears D.

All five interceptions made my him, came in the Super Bowl season.

Manning Jr. was a third round pick out of UCLA, by the Carolina Panthers.

He had 168 tackles and nine interceptions in his three seasons with Carolina.

Ricky skipped practice this morning, showing his displeasure towards the team.

He wants an opportunity to play as a starter, but with his stats from last year he might not have a chance.

Hopefully Manning Jr. will get a shot somewhere, he was very good in the Bears Super Bowl season.

Detroit, New Orleans, Tampa Bay and Cleveland have said to have interest in Manning Jr.

People look at this move like the Chris Harris trade last off-season, which was terrible, but the Bears have plenty of CB's.

They not only have Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman, but they have Corey Graham, who is looking good and Trumaine McBride, who started in place of Vasher last season, due to injury.

The Bears defense will be fine, remember they didn't blitz at all in the Niners game.

This is what coach Lovie Smith had to say about the performance “Well, it’s still a preseason game. Do you not feel the same way? It’s a preseason game. You don’t want to play that bad obviously, but we did. We know what we need to correct, and we’ll do it. Come the Indy game, you won’t see that defense, I’ll tell you.”

They don't want to give away any plays for the other teams in the league.

Rex Grossman: Just Dealing With His Backup Role

Today's practice ended and Rex Grossman final addressed the media.

He has waited to talk since losing the starting QB job to Kyle Orton.

Rex said "You just have to deal with it, There's no other option."

Rex also said "I was a little surprised but I’ve had some time to digest it and I’ll be ready to go."

This is first time in Rex's career that he will be on the bench as the backup QB.

Rex was always perceived as great potential as a QB, even when he was on the injured reserve, with all his injuries.

Rex was asked if he would have liked to sign with a different now that he is not the starter.

His response was ``My mind set hasn’t changed. Just my role from everyone else’s standpoint has changed and that’s taken a little bit of time to get over. I’ll never fully get over it and I don’t think anyone would expect me to. My motivation is to be a great player in this league and a starter again but for right now I’ve got to be the best quarterback and ready at a moment’s notice.’’

Rex resigned with the Bears in February on a one year deal, who knows if he will be back next season.

I would love to see him back next year, and maybe he will get his shot again this year.

We all know that offensive line won't hold up for Kyle Orton, so he might get hurt, so Rex you better be ready.

Rex has the knack to make the big play, while Kyle has the knack to make the right play and that's why Chicago Bear fans prefer Kyle Orton.

Chicago Bears: Name Kyle Orton Opening Day Starter.

It was announced today, that Kyle Orton will be the Chicago Bears opening day starter, as he beat out Rex Grossman, in a QB competition which lasted from training camp to last week in Seattle.

Apparently he beat out Rex Grossman, who many think played terrible last week, played behind a terrible offensive line.

No one can be good behind that offensive line, they got no help this off-season for that glaring problem.

Matt Forte was lucky to average 3.0 yards per carry behind those guys.

Olin Kreutz is the only offensive lineman, that looked decent.

Lovie Smith had this to say about Orton's performance "Starting against the Chiefs and coming in off the bench versus the Seahawks, Orton won the competition without directing the offense to a touchdown or completing a pass of more than 17 yards. His five preseason possessions resulted in two field goals and three punts."

The Chicago Bears will open the season in Indy against the Cots on Sep. 7.

Orton started 15 games in 2005 and three last season and he has thrown for more than 2,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.

Personally I think Lovie is putting in the worse QB out of the two, Rex has a better arm.

This could be the same situation as last year, where Lovie put in Brian Griese, which was terrible.

Personally I feel bad for Rex Grossman, he is hated by so many people in Chicago.

I hope this isn't a big mistake, but in the end if we have a terrible offensive line, it doesn't matter.

Who Will Win The Starting QB Job, Rex Or Kyle?

Who do you think will be the Chicago Bears starting QB at the start of the 2008 season?

I think both QB's know the system very well.

Lets look at Kyle Orton's stats first.

Kyle Orton's Football Career:

Kyle Orton was predicted as a first round pick in 2005, but fell to the Bears in the fourth round.

Orton fell in the draft because of injuries.

Orton stands at 6'4" and weighs 226 Ibs.

Kyle Orton finished his career at Purdue with 62 touchdowns, 28 interceptions and a 59.3 completion % . In 2004, his final season he threw 31 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Orton appeared in 42 games with the Boilermakers.

In 2005, Orton's rookie year, he started 15 games, leading the Bears to a 10-5 record and he threw nine touchdowns.

But, Orton threw 13 interceptions, in an offense that was run first, with Thomas Jones as the starter.

Last year was Orton's second time at seeing action.

Orton came in late in the year after Grossman went down for the year.

Orton led the Bears to two victories and threw three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Now, will look at Rex Grossman's stats.

Rex Grossman's Football Career:

Rex was a gunslinger in college and that is why the Bears selected him in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

Rex stands at 6'1" and 222 Ibs.

Rex had 77 touchdowns, 36 interceptions and a 61.0 completion % at the University of Florida.

Rex led the Florida Gators to two championship games, and was the runner-up for the 2001 Heisman Trophy.

In Rex's rookie season, he played behind veterans Chris Chandler and Kordell Stewart.

Rex started three games, leading the team to a 2-1 record and threw two touchdowns and one interception.

Rex broke his finger in the final game of the season.

The next season, Rex was the named the starter by new coach Lovie Smith, who replaced Dick Jauron.

Rex started three games, leading the team to a 1-2 record and threw one touchdown and three interceptions.

Rex went down for the season, when he damaged his knee ligaments on a scramble run against the Minnesota Vikings.

In, the following season Rex broke his ankle in a preseason game, but he came back for the final two games and replaced rookie Kyle Orton.

Rex lead the Bears to wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers in the final two games of the 2005 season.

With those victories, the Bears were the #2 seed in the NFC.

In Rex's first career playoff game, he threw 17 of 41 passes for 192 yards for one touchdown and one interception in a 29-21 loss against the Carolina Panthers.

The next season, Rex went 13-3 as his first full season as starter and went to Super Bowl XLI with the Bears.

Rex threw 23 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, and had a 54.6 completion %.

Last season, Rex struggled and was benched in favor of Brian Griese, who didn't perform well.

Brian Griese got injured in week 11 and Rex Grossman replaced him.

Rex played in four games after that and threw two touchdowns and only one interception, before hurting his knee in week 14 against the Redskins.

Rex has a 19-11 career record with the Bears, 31 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.

Predicted QB:

Rex Grossman will the be the Bears QB at the start of the year, because he has a better arm and he lead the Bears to Super Bowl XLI.

Kyle Orton seems to be decent, but Rex gives them a better chance to win.

Everyone sees the Bears QB situation as the worst in the league, but the Bears haven't had a great QB since Sid Luckman.

Bears fans should worry about the offensive line and running backs, before the quarterbacks.

The Bears have always been a run first offense under Lovie Smith and if they want to be successful, they better run the ball well.

Rex get's so much criticism and I hope he proves everyone wrong.

The Bears have had 23 quarterbacks in 15 years, so one of these guys will step up.

One of these quarterbacks will get a big contract this off season.

There both young and look to good in training camp.

Remember it all starts with the offensive line.

Ex- Bears Muhsin Muhammad And Tank Johnson Have Comments For Their Former Team

For a guy who led the NFL, the last two years in dropped passes to say something rude about his ex-team is wrong.

Two days ago ex-Chicago Bear Muhsin Muhammad told Peter King of SI.com "That's right. It's where receivers go to die.''

What Muhsin Muhammad said made it into Peter King's Quotes of the Week.

I think Muhsin is just mad because the Bears finally released him and his large contract, which he never lived up to.

The Bears signed Muhsin Muhammad in 2005 the year after he had a career high 16 receiving touchdowns.

The last two seasons, Muhsin led the league in drops and it was time for him to go.

I don't hear Bernard Berrian bashing his former team.

Muhsin was out of his prime and the Bears picked up a guy to take his place, Marty Booker.

A look at Booker, not only as younger, but also as a better player. Booker had his best years as a Bear.

Yesterday, WMVP-AM 1000's Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman chatted with Muhsin Muhammad a day after his criticism of the Bears made headlines.

This is what Muhammad had to say, "I was actually responding to a comment that was made, and I guess you can kind of agree with it,'' Muhammad said. "My career didn't really take off there. I wasn't really directing it at any particular coach or any particular staff member. It was just a situation where I was looking at the receiving corps, as a whole, over the course of time. And you really haven't seen a lot of big-name receivers go to the Pro Bowl for Chicago.''

For a guy who couldn't push Kelvin Hayden out of bounds in the Super Bowl, Muhammad has no right to say this.

I used to like Muhsin Muhammad, and i like cheering "Moose" everytime he caught a pass, but now he lost my respect as a player and as a person.

Of course the Bears quarterbacks had little to say.

Muhsin was asked about the coaches in Chicago, and this is what he said "Well, for whatever reason, it just didn't work out,'' he said. "Ron has had success in different places and, obviously, he's a good coordinator. And also Darryl Drake, he's a great receivers coach. And Lovie Smith, can't say enough good things about him. I think the comment was taken out of context a little bit and probably blown up a little more than it should have been. "But that's just how it goes sometimes in this business—you're going to be misquoted or … things like that happen. We pick up the pieces and try to leave on good notes. I wish them well and I know they do the same for me.''

Daryl Drake alluded to former Bears receivers Bobby Wade, Justin Gage and Bernard Berrian as players, who emerged here in Chicago, before signing lucrative long-term deals with other teams. Drake also mentioned that, Muhsin Muhammad had to share time with Bernard Berrian, when Berrian finally grew as a receiver.

In the end Daryl Drake said this about Muhsin Muhammad, ''I'll give him a great big hug, right around the neck [when they meet in Week 2] because I love him.''

Another former Bears player made rude comments about one of his former teammates.

DT Tank Johnson told CBS Sportsline.com that Grossman was "brittle" and "soft."

Tank Johnson, shouldn't be saying anything after his off the field arrests and mistakes he made as a Bear.

Also, Muhsin Muhammad dropped more passes than i can remember.

Ron Turner reflected on the comments made by the former Bears players. He said "To be honest that's the first time I ever heard that from either of those guys, but any time anybody says something about guys on this team you take offense to it."

Next time you want to talk bad about someone Muhsin or Tank, talk bad about yourself.

Maybe you guys should look in the mirror, once in a while.

Rex Grossman gets so much criticism and I hope he proves everyone wrong and has a great year.

Bears Looking at Bringing Fred Miller Or Ruben Brown Back

Since they might have first-round pick Chris Williams gone until November, the Chicago Bears have reportedly have thought about bringing veteran tackle Fred Miller or guard Ruben Brown back to the team.

The Chicago Bears released Fred Miller in February of this year for salary cap reasons.

Miller had two years left on his five-year, $25.5 million contract. He was due a $500,000 bonus on March 1 and scheduled to make $4 million this season.

Fred Miller is 35 years old, but the Ravens, Texans and Bears are all interested in him.

They might need to make this move because they are not only missing Chris Williams, but they are also missing Terrance Metcalf.

Metcalf had knee surgery, and no one knows how long he will be out.

If the Chicago Bears do bring Fred Miller back, they can put John Tait at LT and John St. Clair at LG.

They would look better than Josh Beekman or Anthony Oakley at LG, who both have 0 career starts in the NFL.

Personally, I think bringing Fred Miller back would be a big mistake, he was very bad last season.

Who knows what Fred Miller can do, but the Bears should take a look at Ruben Brown if they want someone.

Ruben Brown is 36 years old and the Bears need someone right now.

If the Bears sign anyone it should be Ruben Brown, he is a better player than Fred Miller.

I would like to see Ruben Brown in a Bears uniform this season.

Ruben Brown has expressed interest in coming back to the Bears.

Chicago Bears: What Did We Learn From the First Preseason Game?

What did we learn from the first Chicago Bears preseason game of 2008 against the Kansas City Chiefs?

We learned that they have three quarterbacks on the roster.

They don't just have Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman, they have Caleb Hanie too.

This guy played well in his first action in the league.

Hanie is an undrafted free agent from Colorado State, who could solidify his spot on the team with his play.

But, the starter Kyle Orton, performed well, until his fumble on a scramble which he later recovered.

Rex Grossman's arm looked good throwing a 25 yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wolfe, but his hair looked bad.

I think the offense struggled a little bit as a whole, because they don't have all there starters on the offensive line and of course Kevin Jones didn't get to play.

First round pick Chris Williams is said to be out until november and the Bears have reportedly talked to Fred Miller and Ruben Brown about coming back.

Between the other three running backs, they looked good. Forte, AP and Garrett Wolfe all looked they could be starters.

I really like Adrian Peterson's ability in the screen game.

Matt Forte looks to be a much better back than Cedric Benson was.

The defense struggled a little bit, but they are good and they will get it together.

Plus, it is just a preseason game, it means nothing.

Mark Schlereth of ESPN, who usually makes fun of the Bears QB situation, said Kyle Orton should be the starter for this years Bears team.

What people don't understand is, that the Chicago Bears haven't had a great QB since Sid Luckman. Also, the Bears have showed they can win with just an okay QB.

Kyle Orton's rookie year in 2005, the Bears went 11-5 and he was ordinary.

in 2006, Rex Grossman lead the team to a 13-3 record.

Last season, the Bears went 7-9, because they chose to give in and put Brian Griese in as the QB. The defense was battered by injuries. The last two regular season games, the Bears performed well.

It seems like Chicago Bears fans want there QB to fail.

The question on the Chicago Bears offense is not QB, it is RB and offensive line.

You don't have to have a great QB to win, when it comes to the Chicago Bears.

Bears name Orton the starter for tommorow's night first preseason game

The Chicago Bears named Kyle Orton the starter for the Bears first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

But, the reps between both QB's will be the same.

Rex Grossman will come into the first half, so don't worry you will get to see both of them in the game.

Grossman will start next week against the Seahawks and Orton the next week and Grossman the final week of the preseason.

What about un-drafted rookie, Caleb Hanie, he could be the starter.

This QB competition will be a good one, but I see one QB coming out on top earlier than many expect.

I truly believe Rex Grossman will be the man under center, when the first week of the season comes.

He has so much potential and has a much better arm than Kyle Orton.

Kyle Orton did do a decent job, during his rookie season for the Bears.

Lovie Smith had this to say about the QB decision "Don't look into any of these decisions that we've made right now." "It's a starting spot, and there's no rhyme or reason as to why we're going this direction. It's just the way I want to go right now."

Kyle Orton addressed the media yesterday, and had this to say "I think the last four or five practices, I've been sharp." "I just keep on getting better, and that was my goal going into camp. I'm glad. I wanted to come out and start. I feel real confident right now."

Grossman was all small talk, when he said "I really don't have an opinion on how it came down, but I'm excited about being live. That's how you get in game mode."

In other preseason news, Terrence Metcalf and first round pick Chris Williams won't play in the game tomorrow night. Instead, Josh Beekman will fill in for Metcalf and John St. Clair will fill in for Williams.

Besides those injuries, the Bears are still without Dan Bazuin (knee swelling), Dusty Dvoracek (calf), Michael Okwo (leg) and Hunter Hillenmeyer (undisclosed).

But, Kevin Jones is close to coming off the physically unable to perform list, dressing in full pads with a brace on his right knee.

We will see what happens in tomorrow nights game.

Aaron Rodgers: He Can't Possibly Beat Brett Favre Out for the No. 1 Job, Can He?

The Green Bay Packers had Aaron Rodgers taking all the snaps this offseason as the No. 1 QB, but now that future Hall of Famer Brett Favre has come back, the job looks to be Brett's to take.

As I look at it Brett Favre was the second best QB last season, behind Tom Brady, so why put in an unproven QB over a future Hall of Famer?

I am sure the Green Bay Packers will figure it out sooner than later that they should put Favre as the No. 1 QB, not trade, release, or put him as the backup.

I think if Favre does well the Packers look great, but if he fails they could be chanting Rodgers sooner than you think.

Maybe Aaron Rodgers isn't as bad as we all think. But he did drop in the first round all the way to 24 in 2005.

Maybe the Packers saw something in Rodgers that we didn't or they just drafted a guy to come in when Favre was to retire.

Jerome Bettis was asked about the Packers' situation and he said, "I understand Aaron Rodgers—it's a delicate situation for him. But if you let the competition decide who wins, no one can be upset about that. And Brett may not win, and if that happens you're in the best of all situations because Aaron has proved to you that he can go out there and get it done."

This whole fiasco with Favre was ridiculous and should of never happened and I am glad it is over. Now that can talk about better stuff on all the sports shows.

We will see how Brett Favre performs, but Aaron Rodgers should not assume anything.

Aaron Rodgers could get his chance soon.

Bears Player Preview: Kellen Davis

Today I will preview the Chicago Bears' second fifth round pick, Kellen Davis, on Chicago Bears Player Preview.

This guy is 6'7" and 262 Ibs.

Kellen Davis will replace TE John Gilmore who left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this off-season.

Kellen Davis enjoyed his years in college at Michigan State.

Davis will take Muhsin Muhammad's number 87 and he might contribute more than many think.

I can't remember when the Bears had better tight end's on their roster.

With veteran Dez Clark, last years first-round pick Greg Olsen and Kellen Davis they looked pretty stacked.

Kellen Davis had 60 career receptions for 789 yards (13.1 avg.) and nine receiving touchdowns in his four year career with the Spartans.

Last season Davis was third on the team with 32 catches for 513 yards and he had six receiving touchdowns.

With those stats, he was named honorable mention All-Big Ten selection.

Not only did he play offensively as a TE and defensively as a DE, but he also played on the field goal/PAT unit on special teams and on the defensive line.

Look for the Chicago Bears to use him like Israel Idonije on the field goal unit, because of his height.

The Bears love drafting athletic players, who are versatile.

He is a fast-developing receiver and has big hands, but needs some more practice at catching the football.

Kellen Davis could be used as a DE, but Lovie Smith said after the draft they selected for his offensive skill not his defensive skills.

Bears coaches have reported that Kellen Davis has looked sharp in training camp.

Look for Kellen Davis to be nice fill in TE if Greg Olsen or Dez Clark goes down with an injury.

Kellen Davis won't get much playing time unless that happens, but he will get time in goal-line situations

Why Rex Grossman Has To Start the Regular Season

Yes. I said it. Rex Grossman must start for the Bears.

Call me crazy, but in 30 starts, he has a 19-11 record. Yes, people will say that he turns the ball over way too much, but as many Bears fans know, the players around him respond to the guy for some strange reason.

And don't forget that he was "the guy" that helped lead the Bears to a Super Bowl only two years ago.

He definitely has a chip on his shoulder after Super Bowl XLI, where the Bears ran the ball well and defended solidly. Despite the Bears' great defensive play, Grossman's turnovers cost them the game. He threw three interceptions, including one that resulted in a touchdown, which sealed the Colts' victory.

That’s why I believe Rex will start the season opener against the Colts and continue to play throughout the regular season. He wants to prove himself as an elite NFL quarterback. But first comes the much-publicized QB competition in the Windy City.

It's clear that Rex is the favorite to win. In fact, Bears officials have said that they expect Rex to win the starting job. He has the talent to lead a team. Whether or not he wins the starting role is another question.

We all know that when he’s hot, he can be unstoppable, as was the case when he threw four touchdown passes against Detroit in 2006 which was his best game to date.

When he’s cold, he can be awful. This was apparent when he threw for zero touchdowns and three interceptions against Green Bay.

With a career rating of 70.9 in 30 starts, Rex is definitely under pressure to perform like a 22nd-overall pick should.

Rex will have a better season this year.

I can see him easily beating out Kyle Orton in the QB competition and throwing well in preseason games before Lovie Smith declares him as the starter. Much to the outrage of thousands of Bears fans that will shout and scream, “WE WANT FAVRE,” it won’t happen.

One thing Rex has to do is mature and stop the stupid, unwanted turnovers and vow to protect the ball. He's shown glimpses of the great quarterback he can be, and that’s what the Bears will need to see from him in the 2008 season.

He doesn't quite have the weapons he had in 2006, but he does have Devin Hester providing a deep threat at WR, along with veteran receivers Marty Booker, Brandon Lloyd, and Mark Bradley.

With much-hyped running backs Matt Forte and Kevin Jones in the mix, and a re-jigged offensive line, the Bears should improve on their 29th-ranked offense from a year ago.

Add a solid top-10 defense and a No.1 special teams, and the Bears can set their sights high this season and make a playoff run. The mood around camp is very positive, with Jerry Angelo dishing out contracts like lunch. But it is up to the players and team to prove that money was well spent.

Brett Favre Might Really Wind Up With an NFC North Team

All of us have heard the rumors about Brett Favre for the last two weeks or so.

But, today the Green Bay Packers offered Brett Favre $20 million for ten years to stay retired.

That is absurd, but I also heard rumors about the Packers trading within the NFC North.

The Bears and Vikings were teams considered.

The only other teams I have heard in the mix are the NY Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I would really be upset if he went to the Minnesota Vikings because that would give them a player who can perform better than Tavaris Jackson.

I watched Tavaris Jackson only once, in the game against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football last season, and he was very bad.

He threw three interceptions and had a 50 QB rating.

He is clearly not the answer.

So, I am sure Viking fans will have mixed feelings if Favre plays for Minnesota this season.

They have despised him for so long.

Now, to the Chicago Bears.

For a period of time I really believed it was possible for the Bears to get Favre, but now with everything I have been reading, the trade is highly unlikely.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated said Chicago is one of Favre's preferred destinations.

But, Brian Urlacher appeared on Dan Patrick show this morning and when he was asked whether he could see Favre playing for a couple of NFC North rivals, he made it clear what he thought.

Brian Urlacher said: "Ooohh, no. I don't see how that would be possible. No way."

Dan Patrick asked why and Urlacher said: "Why? ... First of all, we're in the division. Ummm, we got two good quarterbacks as it is. ... I just don't see how that would be a possibility."

Brian Urlacher then said: "I could see him in a Viking uniform, though. I guess they're going after him pretty hard. OK, well, if they got him, they'd be, uh, they'd be tough. The way they run the ball and with him ... they'd be real, real tough."

Urlacher later said he could see the Minnesota Vikings being a Super Bowl contender with Favre at quarterback.

"Yes, I would definitely think so. I mean, their defense is good. They have a great running game. I mean, nothing against Tarvaris Jackson, but they really haven't thrown the ball that great, you know, the last couple of years. So if you put him in there, it automatically upgrades their passing game right there."

The Chicago Bears two quarterbacks had something to say about the possibility of Favre being in Chicago.

"It's hard to escape because you hear [Brett] Favre this, Favre that," Rex Grossman said. "I try not to pay attention because I don't really care. ... Ever since I got pulled last year, I've tried to worry about everything I can control and nothing else."

"I haven't paid attention to it one bit because I have enough to worry about," Kyle Orton said.

Ron Turner said, "I haven't said a word about it. I hope they have enough sense to know there's nothing to it. I heard that story and just laughed, wondered where these things come from. And I'm sure Rex and Kyle have the same reaction."

So, the Chicago Bears are out of consideration.

That leaves Minnesota Vikings, NY Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay Packers as teams he could be with next season.

The NY Jets have a QB battle right now and I know they would love to bring him in, but NY is a big city, and he has not played in such a place before.

The problem with the Buccaneers getting Favre is Jeff Garcia and the four other quarterbacks on the roster in Tampa Bay.

Jon Gruden coached Brett Favre in Green Bay years ago and it would be a good fit for him, but this won't happen.

The Vikings appear to be the top dogs in this Favre dilemma, because of their lack of depth at quarterback position. They already communicated with Brett.

Then, the Packers, he could end up there as a backup quarterback, but that would be awkward for everyone.

My prediction is the Minnesota Vikings.

So, Vikings fans should get excited.

Also, a thought for everyone in Green Bay, if Aaron Rodgers leads the Packers to the playoffs, than Brett Favre will quickly be forgotten.
